ANSWER: John did his nighttime routine quickly. He wanted to be alone so he could eat his new chocolate. One small chocolate ball was inside the chocolate box. John was disappointed but the small chocolate ball was delicious.

ANSWER: John found that a sip of orange juice tasted like liquid chocolate, so he drank the full glass. When his eggs, toast, and bacon tasted like chocolate, he ate them too. Mrs. Midas was pleased that he’d eaten his breakfast.
QUESTION: How did John stop Spider Wilson’s teasing?
ANSWER: John chewed on a glove, and it tasted like chocolate. Spider Wilson saw him eat his glove. Spider made fun of John. John tried to ignore the teasing, which made Spider grow jealous. Spider took a bite out of John’s other glove. It tasted like leather. Then John ran to school.

ANSWER: John chewed the end of his pencil, and it turned to chocolate so he wasn’t able to finish her pop quiz.

QUESTION: Why didn’t John eat chocolate cream pie at lunch?
ANSWER: John was sick of eating chocolate. He wanted regular food, along with milk or water.
QUESTION: How did John try to eat lunch? Why didn’t he finish the meal?
ANSWER: John tried to eat his food without everything tasting like chocolate. He tried not chewing his food, not letting the food touch his lips, and even looked up at the ceiling while he dropped food into his throat. Once John’s fork and milk glass turned into chocolate, he left his meal.
QUESTION: What made John feel important in the orchestra?
ANSWER: John felt important because he had a solo after the second verse, and the whole orchestra was counting on him to do well. John had been practicing his part at home and knew it well.
QUESTION: How did John embarrass himself during rehearsal?
ANSWER: When it was John’s turn to perform a solo, he pressed the trumpet to his lips. The whole trumpet turned to chocolate. It didn’t make any trumpet noises so he couldn’t play his solo. Mrs. Quaver was dumbfounded, and the class laughed at John for trying to play a chocolate trumpet.

ANSWER: John was embarrassed about his chocolate trumpet, upset with his teachers, and missed being friends with Susan. Though he rejected his mother’s offer of chocolate, Mrs. Midas eased his pain when she said that Susan’s mother was going to pick him up and take him to Susan’s birthday party.

ANSWER: Both Susan and John raced each other to bob for apples. As soon as they put their heads in the water, the water turned to chocolate. Susan was upset with John because her birthday dress and hair were ruined.

ANSWER: While John felt sorry for himself, Mr. Midas left the room to think things through. Mrs. Midas sat down and used her handkerchief to wipe tears from her eyes.

ANSWER: Everything from John’s chocolate pencil to his chocolate trumpet was in the candy store. John blamed the storekeeper for his issue, but the storekeeper asked John to be honest with himself. Then John was, and the storekeeper said that only greedy people can see the coin that John had used to buy the chocolate.

ANSWER: The storekeeper asked whether John wanted to keep his chocolate touch or have his mother restored. John, without hesitation, chose his mother. With this decision, John had everything formerly turned to chocolate changed back to what it should be.
